Another First (Less Traumatic Than The E.R.)

We caved: we were in the middle of a multi-day heatwave, and when Liz invited us up for a swim and dinner, we know that Sophie would enter a pool for the first time.

It was fortuitous, actually, that her swim ring arrived that morning and the ledge is so wide that her fingers don't even reach the water. We wrapped her cast in a plastic bag since Sofia was splashing around, and Pascal took her all around the pool:

Feast Of Sainte Sophie

She did have a raspberry tart to celebrate but here she is enjoying a snack (and yes, the legwarmers on her arms do not really match but we are in wardrobe crisis mode until June 5th):

Lac De Payolles

We visited a pretty lake nearby and Sophie was quite the attention-getter, between her walking harness and her wee cast:

We Weren't Ready For These Firsts.

On Tuesday afternoon, as Sophie was toddling around on the grass, she fell and caught herself with her left hand. She promptly started crying and nothing - NOTHING - would calm her down.

When she finally stopped crying, I made the mistake of shifting her in my arms. And she started crying again. Her arm appeared to be bothering her so Pascal called her pediatrician, who was on vacation. OF COURSE.

We decided to take her to the emergency room. Better safe than sorry . . .

We loaded up by 6:30, checked in at 6:55, waited until 8:30 (and fed a tired baby in her carseat to avoid any unnecessary movement!), saw the doctor for a physical exam of the arm and had two x-rays which revealed a wee fracture near her wrist. Sophie received her first cast (to be worn for two looooooong weeks of wardrobe adjustments and no baths) and we were out the door at 9:30, with Sophie falling asleep barely out of the parking lot.

Here she is the day after, getting used to her new "accessory":

P.S. See the pool in the background? It had been purchased THE DAY BEFORE. We did let her stand in it because it was so warm out :)

51w3d, The New Face Of Merrill Europe

Pascal was taking pictures of the hydrant for our website and Sophie toddled right over - I jumped out of the frame just in time!

51w, The Three Faces Of Sophie

Raoul was on her right, wagging his tail, begging for attention, and this is how Sophie reacted:

50w4d, Peony

I was trying to photograph her in front of our beautiful peonies, but the sun moved and so we ended in the shade, with Sophie showing me the lens cover :)
